Skiing / Snowboarding
Whether it’s gentle family skiing, challenging off-piste, downhill slalom, fast piste carving or deep powder skiing that you want, Villars has everything to offer for the discerning skier or snowboarder. There are over 120km of ski pistes for all ages and abilities enhanced by amazing year-round skiing on the 3,000 metre glacier at ‘Les Diablarets’ that links with Villars. Villars boasts several of the biggest ski schools in Switzerland and instruction is excellent.
Cross Country Skiing
50km of tracks and trails criss-cross through stunning mountain scenery throughout the Villars region. This is a great sport and for those that enjoy the silent natural beauty of the mountains. Equipment can be hired at at all sports shops and charming mountain huts offer refreshments along the way.
Snow shoeing is very popular in Villars and a great alternative for those that do not ski. It can be enjoyed by young and old and there are no barriers to entry. Equipment can be hired from the local sports shops and you can set off on your own or in a group or with a guide organised through the Villars tourist office. There are many marked tracks for all abilities with circuits of 1 to 3 hours in the surrounding mountains.
With skins on your skis you can set off to conquer the snow covered peaks and discover untouched areas with breathtaking scenery. Equipment can be hired at all sports shops and the local mountain guides can be arrangee through Villars tourist office.
The huge covered ice rink at the Centre des Sports in Villars is open all year round. Ice skates can be hired and private figure skating lessons can be arranged too.
Villars boasts a successful ice hockey team who train regularly on the ice. An evening watching the Premiere Team battling out one of their seasonal matches will get the adrenalin pumping. These matches pull in a lively crowd and a buzzing bar!
During the winter months there is also an open-air ice rink at Barbelouse which is very popular with smaller children.
Tobogganing / Sledging
For your sledging enthusiasts there are some runs not to miss. A 2km run from ‘Col de Soud’ down to Villars (take the train up form central Villars) is steep and exhilarating.
The ‘telebob’ at the ‘Refuge de Frience’ in ‘Alpe des Chaux’ nearby is a lovely way for families to spend the afternoon and there is even a conveyor belt for children and sledges so no need to walk up the hill again! Enjoy a drink and watch your children spend hours of entertainment here!
